Mark 1:16-28
Holman Christian Standard Bible
The First Disciples
16 As(A) He was passing along by the Sea of Galilee,(B) He saw Simon(C) and Andrew,(D) Simon’s brother. They were casting a net into the sea,(E) since they were fishermen.
17 “Follow Me,”(F) Jesus told them, “and I will make you fish for[a](G) people!”(H) 18 Immediately they left their nets and followed(I) Him.(J) 19 Going on a little farther, He saw James(K) the son of Zebedee(L) and his brother John.(M) They were in their boat mending their nets. 20 Immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed Him.(N)
Driving Out an Unclean Spirit
21 Then(O) they went into Capernaum,(P) and right away He entered the synagogue(Q) on the Sabbath(R) and began to teach.(S) 22 They were astonished(T) at His teaching(U) because, unlike the scribes,(V) He was teaching them as one having authority.
23 Just then a man with an unclean(W) spirit(X) was in their synagogue.(Y) He cried out,[b] 24 “What do You have to do with us,[c] Jesus—Nazarene?(Z) Have You come to destroy(AA) us? I know who You are—the Holy(AB) One of God!”(AC)
25 But Jesus rebuked(AD) him and said, “Be quiet,[d](AE) and come out of him!” 26 And the unclean spirit convulsed him,(AF) shouted with a loud voice, and came out of him.
27 Then they were all amazed,(AG) so they began to argue(AH) with one another, saying, “What is this? A new teaching(AI) with authority He commands even the unclean(AK) spirits,(AL) and they obey Him.” 28 News about Him then spread throughout the entire vicinity of Galilee.(AM)
