⁶ But his father had never once infuriated^(A) him by asking, ‘Why did you do that? ’^(B) In addition, he was quite handsome^(C) and was born after Absalom.^{(D) 7} He conspired^[a] with Joab son of Zeruiah^(E) and with the priest Abiathar.^(F) They supported^(G) Adonijah, ⁸ but the priest Zadok,^(H) Benaiah son of Jehoiada,^(I) the prophet Nathan,^(J) Shimei,^(K) Rei, and David’s royal guard^[b](L) did not side with Adonijah.
