⁶ But his father had never once reprimanded^[a](A) him by saying, “Why do you act this way?”^(B) In addition, he was quite handsome^(C) and was born after Absalom.^{(D) 7} He conspired^[b] with Joab son of Zeruiah^(E) and with Abiathar the priest.^(F) They supported^(G) Adonijah, ⁸ but Zadok the priest,^(H) Benaiah son of Jehoiada,^(I) Nathan the prophet,^(J) Shimei,^(K) Rei, and David’s warriors^(L) did not side with Adonijah.
