²⁴ When her time came to give birth, there were indeed twins in her womb. ²⁵ The first one came out red-looking,^[a] covered with hair^[b] like a fur coat, and they named him Esau.^{(A) 26} After this, his brother came out grasping Esau’s heel with his hand.^(B) So he was named Jacob.^[c](C) Isaac was 60 years old when they were born.

²⁸ “Your name will no longer be Jacob,”^(A) He said. “It will be Israel^[a] because you have struggled with God^(B) and with men and have prevailed.”
