²⁰ Then Jacob made a vow:^(A) “If God will be with me and watch over me on this journey, if He provides me with food to eat and clothing to wear,

² When a man makes a vow to the Lord or swears an oath to put himself under an obligation, he must not break his word; he must do whatever he has promised.^(A)

¹¹ Making a vow,^(A) she pleaded, “Lord of Hosts, if You will take notice of Your servant’s affliction,^(B) remember and not forget me, and give Your servant a son,^[a] I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and his hair will never be cut.”^[b](C)
