⁸ For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.^(A) There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines.^[a] These are the beginning^(B) of birth pains.^(C)

Persecutions Predicted

⁹ ‘But you, be on your guard! They will hand you over to local courts,^[b](D) and you will be flogged^(E) in the synagogues.^(F) You will stand before governors and kings^(G) because of me,^(H) as a witness^(I) to them.^{(J) 10} And it is necessary that the gospel^(K) be preached to all nations.
