1 In the beginning, God created the heaven and the Earth.
2 And the Earth was without form and void. And darkness was upon the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light, “day.” And the darkness He called, “night.” So, the evening and the morning were the first day.
6 Again, God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters. And let it separate the waters from the waters.”
7 Then God made the expanse; and separated the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse. And it was so.
8 And God called the expanse, “sky.” So, the evening and the morning were the second day.
9 God said again, “Let the waters under the sky be gathered into one place. And let the dry land appear.” And it was so.
10 And God called the dry land, “earth.” And He called the gathering together of the waters, “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth vegetation: seed-bearing plants, the fruit-bearing tree - which bears fruit according to its kind and has its seed in itself - upon the Earth.” And it was so.
12 And the earth brought forth vegetation that bears seed according to its kind; also, the fruit-bearing tree that has its seed in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
13 So the evening and the morning were the third day.
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky, to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.
15 “And let them be for lights in the expanse of the sky, to give light upon the Earth.” And it was so.
16 God then made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He also made the stars.
17 And God set them in the expanse of the sky; to shine upon the Earth
18 and to rule in the day and in the night; and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19 So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
20 Afterward, God said, “Let the waters bring forth in abundance every creeping thing that has life. And let the birds fly upon the Earth in the open expanse of the sky.”
21 Then God created the great whales; and everything living and moving which the waters brought forth in abundance according to their kind; and every bird, according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
22 Then God blessed them, saying, “Bring forth fruit and multiply. And fill the waters in the seas. And let the birds multiply on the Earth.”
23 So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24 Moreover, God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living thing, according to its kind: cattle, and that which creeps, and the wild animals, according to their kind.” And it was so.
25 And God made the wild animal of the Earth, according to its kind; cattle, according to its kind; and every creeping thing of the Earth, according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
26 Furthermore, God said, “Let us make man, in our image, according to our likeness. And let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds, and over the wild animals, and over all the Earth, and over everything that creeps and moves on the Earth.
27 Thus, God created the man in His image. In the image of God, He created him. He created them male and female.
28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Bring forth fruit, and multiply. And fill the Earth and subdue it. And rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over every wild animal that moves upon the Earth.”
29 And God said, “Behold, I have given to you every plant-bearing seed which is upon all the Earth. And every tree (wherein is the fruit of a tree-bearing seed) shall be food for you.
30 Likewise - to every wild animal of the Earth, and to every bird of the sky, and to everything that moves upon the Earth which has life in itself - every green plant shall be for food.” And it was so.
31 And God saw all that He had made. And lo, it was very good. So, the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
2 Thus the heavens and the Earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2 For on the seventh day, God ended His work which He had made. And the seventh day, He rested from all His work which He had made.
3 So God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it; because on it, He had rested from all His work which God created and made.
4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the Earth - when they were created, on the day that the LORD God made the Earth and the heavens -
5 and every shrub of the field before it was in the earth; and every plant of the field, before it grew. For the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, nor was there a man to till the ground,
6 But a mist went up from the Earth; and watered all the Earth.
7 The LORD God also made the man from the dust of the ground and breathed in his face breath of life. And the man was a living soul.
8 And the LORD God planted a garden, eastward in Eden. And there He put the man whom He had made.
9 For out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the Tree of Life also in the midst of the garden and the Tree of Knowledge (of good and of evil).
10 And out of Eden went a river to water the garden. And from there it was divided and became four heads.
11 The name of the first, Pishon. The same runs through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.
12 And the gold of that land is good. There is bdellium and the onyx stone.
13 And the name of the second river, Gihon. The same runs through the whole land of Cush.
14 And the name of the third river, Hiddekel. This goes toward the east side of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.15 Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden, so that he might dress it and keep it.
16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “You shall eat freely from every tree of the garden.
17 “But from the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat. For on the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die.”
18 Also the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make a perfect mate for him.”
19 So the LORD God formed from the earth every wild animal, and every bird of the sky; and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. For whatever the man named the living creature, so was its name.
20 Therefore, the man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every wild animal. But Adam found no perfect mate for himself.
21 Therefore, the LORD God caused a heavy sleep to fall upon the man. And he slept. And he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in its place.
22 And with the rib which the LORD God had taken from the man, he made a woman. And he brought her to the man.
23 Then the man said, “This, now, is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called ‘woman’, because she was taken out of the man.
24 “Therefore, man shall leave his father and his mother and shall cling to his wife. And they shall be one flesh.”
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife. And they were not ashamed.
1 Book of the lineage of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
2 Abraham begat Isaac. And Isaac begat Jacob. And Jacob begat Judah and his brothers.
3 And Judah begat Perez, and Zerah, of Tamar. And Perez begat Hezron. And Hezron begat Ram.
4 And Ram begat Amminadab. And Amminadab begat Nahshon. And Nahshon begat Salmon.
5 And Salmon begat Boaz, of Rahab. And Boaz begat Obed, of Ruth. And Obed begat Jesse.
6 And Jesse begat David the King. And David the King begat Solomon, of the wife of Uriah.
7 And Solomon begat Rehoboam. And Rehoboam begat Abijah. And Abijah begat Asa.
8 And Asa begat Jehoshaphat. And Jehoshaphat begat Joram. And Joram begat Uzziah.
9 And Uzziah begat Jotham. And Jotham begat Ahaz. And Ahaz begat Hezekiah.
10 And Hezekiah begat Manasseh. And Manasseh begat Amon. And Amon begat Josiah.
11 And Josiah begat Jeconiah, and his brothers, about the time they were carried away to Babylon.
12 And after they were carried away into Babylon, Jeconiah begat Shealtiel. And Shealtiel begat Zerubbabel.
13 And Zerubbabel begat Abiud. And Abiud begat Eliakim. And Eliakim begat Azor.
14 And Azor begat Zadok. And Zadok begat Achim. And Achim begat Eliud.
15 And Eliud begat Eleazar. And Eleazar begat Matthan. And Matthan begat Jacob.
16 And Jacob begat Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, Who is called Christ.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David, are fourteen generations. And from David until they were carried away into Babylon, fourteen generations; and after they were carried away into Babylon until Christ, fourteen generations.
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: When His mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child, from the Holy Ghost.
19 Then Joseph, her husband, being a just man and not willing to make her a public example, was of a mind to release her secretly.
20 But while he thought these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, the son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For that which is conceived in her, is from the Holy Ghost.
21 “And she shall bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus. For He shall save His people from their sins.”
22 And all this was done to fulfill that which is spoken from the Lord by the Prophet, saying,
23 “Behold, a virgin shall be with Child, and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which is by interpretation, ‘God with us’.”
24 Then Joseph, having awakened, did as the angel of the Lord had instructed him, and took his wife.
25 But he did not know her until she had brought forth her first-born Son, and he called His name, Jesus.
2 When Jesus then was born at Bethlehem in Judea, in the days of Herod the King, behold, wise men came from the east to Jerusalem,
2 saying, “Where is the King of the Jews Who is born? For we have seen His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
3 When King Herod heard this, he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where Christ should be born.
5 And they said to him, “At Bethlehem in Judea. For so it is written by the Prophet,
6 ‘And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the Princes of Judah. For out of you shall come the Governor Who shall feed My people, Israel.’”
7 Then Herod secretly called the wise men and carefully inquired of them the time that the star had appeared.
8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go, and search carefully for the Child. And when you have found Him, bring me word, that I may come also, and worship Him.”
9 So when they had heard the king, they departed. And lo, the star which they had seen in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over the place where the Child was.
10 And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with an exceedingly great joy.
11 And they went into the house, and found the Child (with Mary, his mother), and fell down and worshipped Him, and opened their treasures; and presented gifts to Him: gold and frankincense and myrrh.
12 And after they were warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, they withdrew to their country by another way.
1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the Law of the LORD. And on His Law does he meditate day and night.
3 For he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of waters, that will bring forth her fruits in due season; whose leaf shall not fade. So, whatever he shall do shall prosper.
4 The wicked are not so; but are as the chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous. And the way of the wicked shall perish.
1 The Proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, King of Israel:
2 to know wisdom and instruction; to understand the words of knowledge;
3 to receive instruction; to do wisely by justice and judgment and equity;
4 to give sharpness of wit to the simple, and knowledge and discretion to the child.
5 And a wise man shall hear and increase in learning. And a man of understanding shall attain to wise counsels;
6 to understand a parable and the interpretation, the words of the wise and their dark sayings.
